Should I Choose A Male Puppy Or A Female Puppy?

Do male or female dogs make better pets?  Are male or female dogs simpler to train?  The answers to these questions depend upon what you are looking for in a pet and not really in the gender of the dog.  Both male and female puppies can grow up to be wonderful dogs and both can be well trained.  Your decision to get a dog should be based more upon how the puppy reacts to you and your family rather than the gender of the pup.

The temperament, the level of required care and the size of the breed are far more important considerations when choosing a pet than the gender of the dog.  Males and females have distinct personality traits but both can be well trained and both can make wonderful pets. For more information about dog obedience training and where you can get dog training videos online that will show you step-by-step every thing you need to know.

Unless you are focusing on breeding dogs you will want to make sure that your puppy is spayed or neutered.  Breeding puppies is a big responsibility and most regular pet owners want to give that responsibility to the professionals.  There is much more to breeding puppies than just having a cute litter of puppies every so often.  If you do plan on breeding puppies then you will have to deal with having your female dog go into heat every so often and making sure that your male dog does not go out roaming in search of a female in heat.  Spaying and neutering just makes sense.

Male dogs are sometimes considered to be superior watchdogs because they are more territorial.  Some think that female dogs usually have a more loving nature and a warmer temperament.  Some trainers also believe that a female dog will be more protective and maternal around a young family but a male dog will have more endurance and be more playful all around. It depends on what you are looking for in a pet.

However, it is wise to consider that all of these characterizations are just generalizations. Female dogs can be great watchdogs and male dogs can be loving companions.  Dogs exhibit their own personalities and what is important is how they fit into your family.

There are a few traits that are more predominant within a certain gender but dogs of the other gender will sometimes exhibit those same behaviors.  For example, male dogs tend to mark their territories but a female will also mark territory at different times.  Female dogs tend to be somewhat more independent but a male dog can also show this characteristic.

A female puppy may be somewhat simpler to housetrain because they do not mark their territory as much as a male.  Oftentimes police dogs are male because of their increased endurance.  If you are just looking for a wonderful pet then the gender shouldn’t make any difference but if you are looking for something specific the gender might be a concern.  A pleasing personality that meshes into your family is the most important concern of choosing a pet.

Both males and females express their own challenges that come with raising a puppy but the rewards are the same regardless of gender.  Males and females both make wonderful pets and that is what you really want.

Buying A Dog?

There are many reasons why you should go out and buy a dog but there also seems to be many reasons why you should hold back on the purchase until you know for sure how to take care of the animal.

Why You Should Get A Dog

Dogs are of course very friendly to everyone if you bring them up in the right way, very comforting too. There is a good reason for families having dogs over cats and it is because they work better with a family than cats do. Cats can be very good pets indeed but when it coems to families they are sometiems a bit spiteful, however from kitten they can be brought up well.

One of the really good things about dogs is that if they are feeling a bit unwell they are still up for a game and they can cheer you up if your feeling down. They are also great pets for kids because if you train them correctly they will never lash out even if you hurt them by accident by stepping on their tail or something like that. Although it does sound a bit silly it takes a lot of trust between the owner and the dog to form that bond.

Why You Shouldn’t Get A Dog

With Christmas coming up it is never a good time to make the decision on getting a dog. More importantly you should never get a dog for someone for Christmas as more often than not they are taken back because they simply cannot find the time to take care of the animalMore importantly you should never get a dog for someone for Christmas as more often than not they are taken back because they simply cannot find the time to take care of the animal.

A puppy is great but raising a dog is actually very hard work and can cost a lot of something goes wrong. This is where puppy insurance can come into it. Of course you will have to teach it a lot of things from going to the loo outside and teaching it how to fetch and all of that nonsense.

So it isnt easy to do this but what did you expect, however you do get a cool friend out of it all!

At first the dog could go around and do its business on anything! Best to get other insurances in place like the mobile phone insurance or perhaps the general gadget insurance.

The Important Parts of Dog Care

The Bond that can come between a person and a dog can be extremely strong, especially if that bond had been strengthened living with each other for many years, I have personally cried after loosing our family dog that had been like a best friend to me from my birth till I as 15 years old, when he was hit by a car one morning.

Dogs can help us in many different ways. Some people get a dog because they are lonely and need a loyal friend or because they want a dog to protect the home. A dog that is taken good care of and given attention to regularly will give his life to help protect his home and his owner. To blind people, dogs can become an extra set of eyes that help them navigate the world.

The greatest dog care issue you face is giving your dog a healthy dog food. Most people think they know what good nutrition is, but they really don’t. The reason for this is that the commercial dog food makers are experts at marketing to people. If you’d like to learn about the foods that are truly healthy for your dog, click here now to download the Dog Food Doctrine. It doesn’t cost a dime. You’ll also learn the 60 most dangerous dog food ingredients.

The next most important part of dog care is that your dog has to get tons of physical exercise. This is the same for large dogs and small dogs. All dogs need to be let out at least once every 8 hours and should given at least a 20 minute walk to give the dog some fresh air, exercise and a chance to relieve themselves.

Another crucial thing is to regularly play with your dog. This could be playing a game of fetch, going to the park, wrestling or throwing the ball, just be sure not to get too rough with your dog. Horsing around with your dog for 30 minutes daily, is great for your dogs physical and mental health, it also creates a pretty great bond between the 2 of you which will then extend to everyone else in your family.

What you feed your dog is very important to the dogs continued good health. The better dog foods will be marked for what are groups the food is appropriate for. Younger dogs need certain vitamins and minerals in larger amounts then an adult dog, and the same goes for an elderly dog they need more calcium in their food to help protect their bones and joints. Letting your dog eat the wrong dog food may hamper your dog’s growth and makes it much more likely that your dog will have health issues that require surgery when it is older.

Just like a person a dog should be taken to the veterinarian’s office every 6 months, and must receive their shots every year. Routine vaccinations as well as visits will ensure your dog stays happy and grows old. However, there are a few “secrets” that your vet doesn’t want you to know about, click here now to see these vet secrets.

At Least 4 Puppy Agility Jumps Makes Ideal Training

We are often asked, “How many jumps should I start with?”  You can never have too many single jumps to practice agility.  A good starting place is four jumps.  This is the absolute lowest number of jumps that we recommend.

You can teach a variety of skills, drills, and exercises with four jumps.  Four jumps will allow you to work on a short jump chute or jump grid.  You can setup a “box” with your jumps and practice handling, collection, and 270 degree jumps.  You can teach your puppy jumping left and right.  You can be outside the box and send your dog or you can handle from the inside of the box.  Your jumps can be setup in a horizontal line, so that you can practice serpentines and treadles.

Eight jumps is the next step you can get.  Now you can setup two boxes with one introductory jump.  You’ve now multiplied your drills that you can practice with your dog.  Your jump grids can be of recommended size and quantity of jumps.  You can also setup your jumps in a circle with the jump bars perpendicular to the circle or on the circumference of the circle.  This pattern also enables you to train a variety of skills.

Double jump and triple jump is your next consideration.  You could set two or three single jumps together to make your expanded jump, but having double and triple jump in your course work is really valuable to practice.  We’ve seen many puppies run a clean train and the last obstacle is a triple and the puppy is not prepared for it, and bang, down comes the bar.

You can really be ahead of the pack and have two sets of eight jumps.  This is the ultimate in training because you can keep a jump grip up at all times that is separate from your course work, and have eight single jumps to have for course work.  And when you include your double and triple, you can really practice all the jumping skills and drills necessary to get you those “Qs”.

Is an Elevated Dog Bowl Right For Your Pet?

So now that you have a new dog, daily meals will become second nature very fast. Elevated dog bowls make life easier for your pet as well as for you.  The most popular bowl that sits on the floor will always be a classic, but, these bowls can be very harmful on larger dogs.

There are a number of medical conditions that are associated with eating at such a low height, and the mess is greater as well.

Stomach Bloat
While uncommon, stomach bloat happens usually when dogs scarf their food from regular bowls. The next time your dog is eating, watch how his food will instantly vanish.

Dogs are fast eaters by nature. It is a form of protection against anyone or anything taking their food. What a lot of people do not know is that it is very hazardous for their health to eat from the bowls on the ground.

By scarfing their food at such an angle, most dogs ingest a lot of air.  When air is ingested by your dog, it can cause your dog’s stomach to twist.  A dog with stomach torsion is an emergency.

Few dogs survive this harmful condition and most will repeat the torsion in a short length of time.  On a less serious note, there is also the gas to handle with, and that is uncomfortable for you as well as your dog.  Raising the food takes away the risk.

Joints and Muscles
Elderly dogs have a bit more trouble crouching down to eat their food and is very hurtful on joints and muscles.  The concluding tension on elbows and wrists as they bend over causes them to eat fast or unfavorably.

Think about attempting to eat your food at a push-up stance.  That is how a dog feels after each meal.  The position is bad for their posture and makes eating difficult.  Raising the dish helps decrease pressure on those soft joints.

No Cleaning
A dog that is eating or drinking at the appropriate height makes less of a mess. There is no longer a excuse to quickly throw the food back to the throat, and they don’t have to eat so fast.

With less pressure on their joints, dogs relax a bit and enjoy their food more.  If you have a dog that really bolts their food no matter what, consider purchasing a bolt preventing bowl to an elevated bowl.  It will force your pet to calm down.

Elevated dog feeders are easily found either at your local pet store or online.  To get the height to your dog, measure your dog at the withers.  The withers are the front shoulder joint.  Subtract six inches and you have the perfect height for your dog’s bowl.

Find a bowl that can relate to that height and give it a try.  Both you and your dog will be happier about feeding time and as a bonus, you won’t have to bend quite as far to put the food in the bowl.

Keep Your Dog From Barking

Sometimes a dog barking can be extremely helpful to his safety or to its owners safety; for example, barking when an unexpected visitor approaches your home. However, a dog’s bark can quickly change from being helpful to just being stressful or bothersome. Especially troublesome for owners who live in an apartment or condominium building and have been the unfortunate recipient of neighbor complaints. There is hope with training techniques and products to help stop your dog from barking.

First off it’s important to realize that many dog’s barking stems from his boredom. Proper exercise can cut down on barking. If a dog isn’t getting any attention, barking sometimes seems to be his way of getting your attention – even if it’s negative attention. Ensuring that your dog has been properly exercised is a good first step toward stopping their unfortunate barking problems.

This first technique owners will want to try in training your dog not to bark: immediately address the dog when he is inappropriately barking by going to your dog, tapping it on the nose, and saying “no” in a “I mean business” tone of voice, then immediately leave the dog or continue with your walk and not playing with the dog after punishment. Another tactic is similar to this by immediately addressing the dog, but don’t say anything, simply spray a bit of water on the dog – this may have to be repeated before the dog gets the point. Behavior training is always helpful when owning a dog and this issue can be addressed in class.

Anti-barking products can also help break your dog of their bad barking habits. These products include: electronic collars, citronella collars, sound-emitting collars, remote sound-emitters, muzzles, debarking surgery, and medication. These items, except for surgery, can be used temporarily while training is still in the process. Finally, you might pursue professional help – many trainers and kennels offer late night training sessions, which would let the owner and pet both come to understand how to solve the problem.

Treatment and Prevention of Dog Fleas

The minute we start noticing that our dogs are scratching incessantly and they seem to be irritable throughout the day because of an itch, there is a very big possibility that our dogs are infected with dog fleas!

While nobody wants their dogs to get infected with this dreaded pinhead-sized pest (read more: Dog Flea Size), these pests sometimes do find themselves on poor unsuspecting dogs; and before we know it, our cuddly dogs are cuddly no more because of these fleas.

Before the infestation spreads, we should without more argument administer some flea control medication to our dogs.

Dog Flea Effects

Let us not be fooled. These pests may only measure about one-eighth of an inch but their effects can cause serious problems to our dogs and even to us!

Dog fleas do not only cause irritation and itchiness to dogs or other pets; these can also cause the same to the pet owners if both are unaware that there is already a small army of fleas living off on our dogs.

The skin of the dog can get so irritated by flea bites that they develop rashes in certain spots; the irritated skin can get swollen; and of course incessant itching will likely occur.

There could also be noticeable hair loss and blood loss if the fleas remain untreated for a continuous period of time. Over time, the damage can be so severe that death may even occur in extreme cases.

Treatment & Prevention

At the first sign of a flea infestation on our dogs, we should at once take them to the vet as this is the safest and surest way to learn all about treatment and prevention of dog fleas.

A professional on animal care can tell us which products will work best for our dogs as there are other factors that we need to think of before getting any flea control product off the rack.

Our dog’s age, size and sometimes even breed are taken into account in order to get the most effective flea control product for them.

Usually, these flea control products come in the form of spray, powder, collar and pills. There are specific tablets and sprays for certain ages of dogs as strong ones can be potent to a small dog.

The thing to remember is that we shouldn’t delay action of the dog flea infestation as this can only get worse as days go by and the crisis could turn into something bigger if left untreated.

Home Accessories Every Pet Owner Needs

Dog lovers that have allergies will find that adding a few accessories to their home can make caring for the pet and your allergies much easier. Here is a partial list of some accessories you may need.

Give your pet his or her own bed. If you suffer from allergies, the last thing you are going to need is to have your pet sleep in your bed. The dander and hair that they leave behind is a sure way to set your allergies off. Choose a bed that is sized to your pet. While you may not need a extra large dog bed for a toy breed, choose the bed that is the correct size and your pet is more likely to sleep in their own bed and stay out of your bed. Choose a dog bed with a washable cover in order to keep your home fresh smelling.

You are also going to need a good vacuum cleaner. The vacuum helps to keep pet hair and dander picked up off of both bare floors and carpets. There is a Dyson upright vacuum cleaner made especially for homes that have pets called the Dyson animal. These particular vacuums have enough suction to pick up the hair and an effective filtration system that will keep it enclosed until the vacuum is emptied.

Many pets sleep in the laundry room. If this room does not have a vent that is attached to your home’s central heating unit, you may need to use a Delonghi space heater to warm that room so that your pet sleeps in comfort on those long cold winter nights. Set the heater to low and place it out of the pets reach. Am added bonus is that the heater will help to prevent freezing of pipes in the laundry.

If you plan to bathe your pet at home in the bathtub, a hand held shower attachment is very handy. The hand held shower is very effective at rinsing the shampoo from your pet’s hair. It also lets you use warm water for the pet’s bath. Warm water is much more effective at removing smells from the pet.

Be sure that you provide your pet with their own dishes for food and water.

Ceramic dishes are heavier and less likely to tip, but are breakable. They can also be washed in the dishwasher.

Stainless steel dishes are long lasting and dishwasher safe. In addition, they are resistant to breaking.

A Look at Custom Dog Tags

Have you ever been searching and searching for just the correct dog tag, while not finding what you’re trying for to fit your dog’s personality? Select your actual specifications, provide them to the manufacturer, and that they’ll manufacture a dog tag to your liking. Some retailers even focus on custom dog tags.

Do you wish the look and solid feel of chrome steel, brass, or aluminum? Or maybe you are not picky, and just would like a plastic tag. Plastic won’t last quite as long, but they are inexpensive and simply replaceable. A metal or plastic dog tag shouldn’t price additional than $40 in most cases, and in several cases they value under $10. You’ll have all of your dog’s ID information imprinted in the surface of any metal or plastic dog tag.

Some dog tags are jeweled. You can generally select an actual pattern that you would like the design to be in. If you wish the shape of a cursive “R” for Rex, and you wish it tired rhinestone, you’ll find someone to try and do that. Some retailers can offer a additional restricted array of options, however you’ll still usually select from two or 3 types of embedded stones.

When it comes to essentially high-end dog tags, such as sapphire, real silver, gold, or diamond, there tend to be a lot of choices. This is because you may be paying several lots, or perhaps thousands of greenbacks for the fabric itself, thus it’s value it for the retailer to allow you as several choices as you like.

You also must choose the material and vogue of the dog tag’s collar or necklace. There are leather, nylon, rubber, and therefore on, on the lower monetary end; and silk or silver chains on the higher end. Opt for a collar or necklace that compliments no matter dog tag you go with. Simply create certain your dog is snug with it.

Adopting A Protection Dog

Mackie writes:

My smart friend who is a dog trainer offered me his five year recent Belgian Malinois for adoption. He’s trained as a protection dog thus he can guard his master, bite on command, release the bite on command, keep until released and others. He incorporates a trophy as third placer in Level one protection in a protection dog competition. I’ve got 2 dogs at present: A 1 year-recent and a nine month-recent Labrador… each are females, obedience trained and not neutered.

I would love to adopt him and I recognize I can take care of him. Will he accept me when being my friend’s favorite dog for 5 years? My friend assured me that he can transfer the loyalty of the dog to me. He is a fierce dog when in competition however a terribly quiet dog when outside the training ring. After all my friend brings the dog with him incessantly and I recognize of many occasions {that the} dog is off leash. He’s giving him up as a result of he needs to interchange him with a younger dog.

Should I take him up on his provide?

Pricey Mackie:

Yes… the dog can transfer his loyalty to you.

Here are two major problems you should take into account before adopting this dog:

1. The Belgian Malinois (especially one that is bred and trained for bite work and protection dog sports) will need a lot of labor ON YOUR PART to be told a way to handle this dog. You are going to wish a lot of training… one-on-one style… to successfully integrate this dog into your life. It’s like driving a Ferrari or a race car. The automobile already runs nice, however if you don’t learn the proper method to drive it, you will finish up killing yourself. And just as a result of you already apprehend a way to drive a Subaru doesn’t cut it… we have a tendency to’re talking Ferrari, here. Dogs Have Been Man’s Nearest Pet Companions Since The Beginning Of Time!

Dogs have been comrades of man for centuries.  Man’s best friend has been used for security, for seeking out game and for herding.  Our respect for canines have changed as they have altered to our needs over the course of time. Dogs continue their business to protect our families, hunt game, and work with their masters, but the family dog or the fashion statement dog is more of what we see today.

Whether you are an heiress with a designer pooch bag for your dog or you are a family with two and a half kids, the canine in your life is important to you.  Our pets are unique to us and there isn’t anything we would not do for them. The different types of dog and puppy provisions are numerous to fulfill the dog owners’ wishes. One accessory that is absolutely necessary, and is fairly inexpensive, is the dog leash. Maintaining control while walking a dog is one of the primary tasks of a nylon dog leash. The leash is also used as a training mechanism as it allows the master to teach their dog who is dominant in the relationship, as well as basic commands, such as heel, sit, and stay. Among others, people seem to like Casual Canine bad-to-the-bone fashion nylon dog leads.

Nylon dog leashes come in different lengths, colors, and styles. For the fashion conscious, a leash with a rhinestone collar or a sassy statement might represent owner and pet. For an owner with several canines, a lead that has multiple connections for several dogs would be convenient. For the owner of a canine that is more animated and takes the lead more often than its master, a lead with the give of elastic may keep both parties from hurting themselves from a sudden jerk. Leashes that allow owners to select the length of the lead by giving or taking back length grants more or less mobility access to the canine by the master.  Of these, Guardian Gear advanced retractable durable nylon dog leads have proven to be a frequently selected design. Nylon or micro fiber straps that wrap around the dogs’ chest are quite desirable, and are available in various styles and colors to compliment the dog tether.  After studying sales data stylish large medium and small deluxe leather dog training leads were found to be a frequent selection.

Being with your canine companion while running errands or for exercise can be more enjoyable when they are behaving. Keep them close and keep them safe by keeping dogs tethered.

Choosing the Right Dog Breed

It’s becoming more apparent that animal shelters are continually struggling to find homes for many unwanted canines in this country. Researching dog breeds prior to adopting one is extremely important; dog abandonment occurs all to often when the dog doesn’t meet that person’s expectations. When selecting the right dog for you, take into consideration several factors about your lifestyle and about the breed of dog you desire. Consider your own lifestyle. Are you usually an active person, or more of a couch potato? Where do you live – a city apartment or a spacious rural property? Are their young children in your life? Are allergies a constant worry for you? Do you need to set up extra tall dog gates throughout your place? Do you find it tough to remember to take care of your own personal needs, let alone a dog’s? If you are active and have access to sufficient outdoor space, a large breed may be the right fit for you. Like spending a lot of time indoors?

Pick a pooch that is happy to camp out on the couch next to you. Some energetic breeds may become destructive when left indoors all day. Make sure your schedule can accommodate your animal’s limitations. Some of the saddest situations occur when owners give their dogs away to the pound simply because of a change in the family. So take care of your dog and surprise him with goodies like a Christmas dog collar. If your dog will interact with your own children or others frequently, select a breed known for a gentle and patient temperament. If you suspect allergies will be an issue, investigate dog varieties with lesser shedding of hair and dander. Try to spend time around other’s pets before committing to your own as you may be able to determine the intensity of your reaction.

While you may like the distinctive appearance of certain coats, their grooming demands require constant attention. Neglected grooming can create a severely uncomfortable situation for man’s best friend. Be sure to not leave clothing on dogs for hours on end, even if they are wearing holiday dog clothes, because they are not good for their fur. Save yourself and your dog from future heartbreak by taking the time to better understand the time, energy, and care that a canine pet requires. The right dog will be a joyful addition to your life, and it is not a decision to take lightly.

Electronic Bark Suppression Training Collars

Of all the currently available types of training collars for dogs, electronic collars, also widely known as e-collars or shock collars, are the most recent to have arrived, as well as perhaps the most effective, as demonstrated by much scientific evidence.  Each type of electronic collar has its own special focus.  The electronic no-bark training collar is among these.  As you might expect, this type of collar is used to encourage the dog not to bark.  There are a few particular ways in which a no-bark collar can accomplish this.  When the dog barks, collars can respond with stimuli like vibrations, ultrasonic noise, or different sprays like citronella, water, or lemon.  A popular option for these among dog lovers is the Petsafe PBC-1000 premium stationary ultrasonic bark control system

Alternatively, it can be used as negative reinforcement as well, meaning that the owner can activate the collar as a means of motivating the dog to perform a desired action.  Basically, you can use a remote training collar as part of just about any training scheme.  Some remote training collars offer certain extra features.  The most advanced remote training collars can output multiple levels and durations of stimulation to the dog.  Some also have vibration or sound features which can further aid in communication.  Also, they can easily be used in conjunction with other training tools and methods in order to get the best possible results.  When selecting one of these bear in mind that the Innotek FS-15 basic static electricity shock remote dog trainer is one of the more popular selections.

This will get the dog’s attention, but it won’t injure him.  It will teach the dog to stay within the boundaries in order to avoid the current.  These devices are very easy to use, and this also explains why they’re so popular.  At the same time, it’s always necessary to combine the introduction of the collar to the dog with the appropriate training, so that the dog will clearly understand the message associated with the collar.  Consult with a professional trainer if you have any doubt as to how to go about this.  This way, you can get the best possible results from your invisible fence system.  Be sure to consider the Innotek IUC5100 premium electronic dog fence and remote trainer system when making your selection as it’s one of the more popular options.

Leather Dog Collars

In most cases, a collar is considered a must for any dog.  This is because collars are used to identify your dog and any illnesses he or she may have, among other things.  There are also numerous types of collars used for specific training purposes.  Collars can have a lot of different features, including, at the most basic level, the material they’re made of.  Of the materials used for dog collars, nylon is number one.  There are a few features that explain nylon’s popularity.  Casual Canine deluxe bad-to-the-bone nylon dog collar are among the popular choices that dog owners make.

The main reason is that leather is one of the strongest, toughest materials in the world of dog collars.  Even if you’re using a heavy-duty leash, a collar that can’t withstand a heavy load will break under enough stress, so it’s important to have a sturdy collar as well.  Leather collars can bear heavier loads than almost every other type of collar currently available, and this is why they’re the most frequently used for large breeds.  Leather dog collars are also widely used for specialty training purposes.  Along with their strength and durability, leather collars are also easy and comfortable for most dogs to wear, and this makes a big difference for K-9 trainers and other professionals.  East Side Collection studded faux leather dog collars are very popular choices in this crowd.

Choke chains should not be used with dogs that are still growing, as they can cause the skin around the dog’s neck to grow abormally, which may result in the need to have the chain surgically removed.  Owners should also take care to put the choke chain on the dog correctly; the ring goes over the back of the dog’s neck, not under the chin.  A choke chain can be a very effective and humane training aid when it’s fitted correctly and used appropriately.  They’re certainly worth considering for dedicated owners who are willing to take the time to learn their nuances.  Many people choose Guardian Gear choke chain medium dog training collars for their usefulness in this regard.

Stocking Fillers for Christmas That Are The Dog’s

Looking for those last minute Xmas gifts? Maybe it’s a case of novelty stuff to use as stocking fillers?Don’t limit yourself to the usual hum drum rubbish that bruises the Satsuma or the crisp red apple in the toe! Get imaginative and creative with your stocking fillers and give gifts that will generate a wow factor long beyond the turkey-filled tedium of Boxing Day!

Christmas gifts for pet lovers are notoriously difficult. Do you buy for the moggie or pooch or for the doting owner? People who treat their animals as almost human and describe themselves as the dog or cat’s “mummy” or “daddy” are clearly lacking in basic knowledge of the human reproductive system. The ideal gift would be something that panders to the almost parental obsession some people have that their dog or cat is “really clever” and “only hides in the bedroom furniture for meditation purposes”, with fantastic stocking fillers tailored to that anthropomorphic delusion. But how to prove that without photographic evidence of your dog actually completing the crossword or finding scribbled chess moves in his basket? Where’s the video of the pooch driving (a Rover presumably)! No, you need to scientifically establish if your mutt is top dog in the brain department so you can justify your claims for his intelligence!

Gifts for him who is convinced he can talk to the animals and wants to answer that burning question come no better than “How Smart is your Dog?” It’s a self-scoring intelligence test developed by a genuine psychology professor at the University of British Columbia. Carefully designed and researched tests will determine the Canine Intelligence Quotient (CIQ) of your pet. Five of the tests cover problem solving, while the other seven deal with learning ability and memory. With a test book, score and result guide, and a stopwatch for checking the rapidity of the results, the Doggy IQ Test has everything you need to prove that your dog’s not stupid. The only thing to watch out for is the worrying possibility that the dog might end up with a higher IQ score than you!

Dog Chews Your Dog Will Love

With the variety of dog bones on the market, you will surely find some that your dog will be unable to resist. Rawhide dog bones are quite popular treats for dogs, but if you give your dog rawhide, be sure to supervise his snack, so that he doesn’t swallow parts of the bone. Rawhide bones are helpful dog treats, as they improve your dog’s dental health. It appears that dogs really enjoy rawhide bones, and are kept occupied during boring times.

However, rawhide dog bones can cause a reaction in dogs who are allergic to any of the ingredients. Chewing rolled rawhide dog chews, instead of flat, can cause your dog’s teeth to crack. In addition, chunks of the bone can break off and cause your dog to choke. Parts of rawhide can be swallowed and possibly cause an obstruction in a dog’s intestines.

There are many other types of dog chews that don’t have as many inherent risks as rawhide dog treats. Nutri-Dog chews will keep your dog busily chewing, and they are good for him, too. And they come in several varieties that can help your dog stay healthy. One has glucosamine and omega vitamins, for joint support. Their dental chews are made from all natural ingredients, to keep your dog’s teeth free of tartar and plaque. The fatty acids in skin and coat chews can help your dog look and feel his best.

Now, let’s examine Greenies dog treats. Greenies are made of all-natural ingredients to help keep your dog’s teeth clean, and are very nutritious. The also kill bacteria and freshen your dog’s breath. Chewing on Greenies will also help extend the life of your dog by strengthening the gums and helping prevent more serious bacterial issues. Greenies don’t contain any preservatives, artificial flavors, or colors.

Your dog will love the all natural ingredients of Bully Sticks. Their beefy taste will encourage your dog to chew. They can also be called Bullies dog chews, beef dog chews, or Bull Sticks. Depending on your dog’s preferences, you may want to select either smoked or natural flavors.

Dog chews are made to encourage a dog to, well, chew. Of course, most pet owners don’t really mean real bones when they talk about dog bones, but all-natural nylon or rawhide bones. Real bones can splinter in your dog’s mouth, or be swallowed, and can wear his teeth down.

Dogs have an innate urge and desire to chew. Puppies, while teething, seem particularly inclined to chew. Dog chews help your dog satisfy their desire to chew without resorting to your shoes or furniture. When you give puppies healthy dog treats, they will help in their teething process, and the growing in of their adult teeth. The pain a puppy feels while teething can also be relieved by chewing dog chews.

Some pets prefer larger bones or smaller bones, usually depending on their own size. If you give them dog bones that are too big, they might ignore them, even though they chow down on smaller bones. Be careful, especially with regard to the hardness of the chews you give your dog. A dog that chews aggressively will make a small bone disappear quickly, so be sure to select the appropriate size and hardness for your dog.

Training to Improve the Behavior of Dogs

Training a dog to act properly has many benefits, for the dogs and their human companions alike. Canine behavior training is possibly the most important part of owning a dog, because it will help prevent negative behaviors. It is important to deal with dog aggression issues by training dogs to interrelate appropriately with other dogs and especially people. In order to know how to effectively train your dog to be a loyal and eager pet, it is important to know where dogs came from, and how their interaction with each other can affect training. Domesticated dogs likely came from wolf puppies that were sheltered by humans long ago. These wild dogs were taught to perform tasks that the humans needed assistance with, like guardian territory and frightening potential predators. Humans in turn provided sanctuary to the dogs, in addition to food, doggie booties and companionship. This is a kind of connection that continues today.

Many dogs still perform a variety of tasks for their masters, including herding, guarding, and hunting. It’s important to know that dogs are pack animals prior to starting a training program. In wild dog packs, each member of the pack quickly learns his or her place in the ranking. Only when the alpha dog dies does the hierarchy ever change once established. The lower dogs understand that they do not challenge the pack leader, and the alpha dog carries out his duties as pack leader. The other members of pack look to the alpha dog for leadership, food, and protection. Keeping this in mind, it is important for you to be the pack leader when you begin training your dog. A dog that submits to his human pack leader will respect his commands without question. The first step in an effective dog training program is for your pup to earn your respect, which will lay the foundation for a successful program. There’s a multitude of reasons why you should properly train a dog. A calm and well-mannered dog is pleasant to be near, both for the dog’s family, and other people he might encounter. They will also be more willing to try wearing dog clothes, once they gain your trust.

Additionally, being around an obedient dog assuages people’s fears, especially when it comes to more controversial breeds like Rottweilers and Pit Bulls. Knowing the reasons behind a dog’s negative traits is important in effectively modifying bad behaviors. For instance, separation anxiety may be the root cause of many bad behaviors chewing and destructive behaviors. Solving the root cause of the problem will help to eliminate the peripheral behaviors. Stress and the lack of ability to deal with it can cause a host of unpleasant dog behaviors. One of the objectives in a successful dog training program is to help the dog deal with stressful activites without showing signs of aggressive behaviors. It is important to differentiate human behavior and dog behavior when training and working through bad behaviors. Dogs and humans have different motivations and reactions, so avoid the temptation to see your dog as human, and react on that impulse. One thing the humans and dogs have in common is their sociability and the need to form close groups and strong bonds. While the bonding is very important to dogs and humans, it has served very different purposes in the evolution of each species over time.

Does Your Dog Suffer November 5th?

The north of Wales has come up with a way to try and calm down pets during the loud nights of November. Take a couple of things into consideration, is it going to help the dog or make it a lot worse than it already is. As well as this, can it be classed as cruelty to animals?

The CD

The CD that is offered out contains various loud noises that are there to make the dog used to loud noises. Gunfire, thunder clashes, vacuum cleaners and the very strange baby’s cry are just some of the sounds to be expected on this CD. Yet the one thing that dogs are most frightened of, fireworks, seems absent from the disc altogether.

What the experts are saying is that you should leave the CD playing all of the time so that your pet is really used to it all. So in actual fact you are scaring your pet for a good few weeks before bonfire night when it isn’t necessary at all.

To me it sounds like the company behind this are trying to make a bit of money on the side by taking gulliable pet owners for a ride. The experts are saying that the pets should not be soothed and taken care of when they are scared but they should learn their lessons and be left to be shown that they shouldnt be afraid.

Would this work out for a human being?

Lets point a gun at someone and threaten to shoot them, when they are trembling in fear lets not stop lets carry it on some more to stop them from being scared.

The person behind this idea is an idiot, simple as this. The best advice is to do it your own way, do not listen to one way of thinking. Do what we do in our house, bring the dog upstairs for one night, they feel a lot more comfortable around their owners and will not be scared in anyway.

Wales in general is actually a really nice place to visit so why not take one of those family days out to there. family holidays UK is another option you can take when it comes to going to Wales.

Keeping Your Dog’s Teeth Clean with Dog Bones

In lieu of the difficult job of brushing a dog’s teeth, conscientious owners keep their dogs’ teeth clean with dog bones. The chewing action can mechanically clean off debris and tartar from dogs’ teeth. Not only do they provide your dog some good activity, but dogs love all the different varieties.

One example of a potentially dangerous dog treat is dog rawhide. Dogs love it because it tastes like meat, but they can possibly choke on pieces of rawhide that they rip off the treat. Hard rawhide pieces can also scrape your dog’s esophagus or throat when he swallows. Rawhide can become an obstruction in your dog’s intestines. You may have noticed that a partially eaten rawhide dog chew is gummy and wet. So it’s kind of like you or I swallowing chewing gum — not that great.

Cow hooves, while beloved by dogs, can cause some of the same problems as rawhide. Additionally, they are sometimes hard enough to crack your dog’s teeth. Uneven, sharp pieces of cow hoof can tear a bowel wall if swallowed. Infection and often death can be the result. It’s just not worth the chance.

Pig ears can contain salmonella, and they can also cause blockages. It’s better to go with safer types of dog treats, rather than risk injury or illness to your dog.

There are some dog bones that are safer for your friend to eat. Especially in this age of all-natural products, you can find many different kinds of dog treats that are healthy for your dog and that don’t pose so many potential risks.

Nylabones, as their name indicates, are made from nylon. They’re quite strong. They won’t break into chunks or splinter like rawhide can. The whole bone is digestible, and even aggressive chewers will have a good time with a nylon bone. When the Nylabone is down to a little stump, pitch it and get your dog a new one.

One brand of highly digestible and low-fat fake pig ears are called Better than Ears. Because they are made from healthy ingredients like wheat bran and soy flour, they really are better than pig’s ears. Dogs adore Better than Ears. They don’t last very long!

There are some times to give your dog bones as chews, and times to avoid it. Never let your dog have chicken bones. They can splinter, or become lodged in your dog’s esophagus.

If you really like rawhide dog treats, consider buying compressed rawhide, which isn’t as dangerous as regular rawhide. The rawhide bone is dense due to compressed layers of beef hide. This kind lasts up to five times longer than regular rawhide dog bones.

When you buy dog treats for your special friend, check the ingredients, and look at the bones. Greasy looking ones aren’t healthy for your dog. When you give your dog a new bone to chew on, it’s a good idea to keep an eye out. If it splinters or if it looks like it may be dangerous for your dog, throw it away. Don’t take a chance with the health and safety of your best friend.

What Your Canine Is Saying With His Eyes

What Your Dog Says With His Eyes

Your dog has emotions and feelings just like you. At any given time, he’ll try to communicate them with his body language and expressions. Most owners never learn to identify these signs; the fact that their pooch is sad, anxious, mad, or happy completely escapes them. As a result, they often fail to give the attention their pets need or crave.

The good news is that you can easily recognize the emotions your canine is feeling by watching his eyes. If you know what to look for, not only will you be able to recognize signals, but you’ll also be able to interpret them accurately. In this article, we’ll give you a crash course on how to read and decipher what your pooch is trying to tell you with his looks.

Looking For Signals

Most of us are accustomed to inferring intention and meaning from watching the faces of our friends and family. The slightest change or nuance can alert you to specific feelings. For the most part, this is a learned trait. You can learn by recognizing the signs your dog uses to express his feelings.

In the same way people can open their eyes wide and shut them, so too, can your canine. Also, keep in mind that shape varies between breeds. If your dog opens his eyes wide, it is usually a sign that he feels vulnerable. That can include feeling stressed or scared regarding something he finds threatening. He might express these same emotions by squinting a bit, though this might also suggest that he is being submissive to you.

The manner in which he is looking at – or away – from you will also suggest emotions and intent. If a dog stares at you with an intense, anxious look he probably perceives you as a threat. This should not be mistaken for a friendly dog that is looking at his owner and craves his attention. If a canine looks away from you, that usually signals he wants to be submissive.

If he is looking at you from the corners of his eyes and you notice a large amount of white, be wary. There is a chance he either perceives you as a threat or is highly agitated. In both cases, he might respond aggressively. It’s common for dogs to do this when you approach them while they’re eating or playing with their favorite toy. This is another signal that is often misinterpreted. If your canine is looking up at you or from the side, seeing the sclera (the white area) of his eyes may not connote aggression. You’ll know the difference because his body will seem relaxed rather than tense.

Owners who take the time to learn how to read their dogs’ eyes will benefit from understanding their feelings. Remember, the only way your pooch can communicate with you is through nonverbal means. Learning how to identify them will strengthen the friendship you share. Remember to give your dog health dog treats and dog chews

Dog Grooming Training

Many schools and accredited institutions provide dog grooming training for people interested in following a career in this field of activity. Thanks to a comprehensive range of programs, trainees can learn how to perform pet care according to the highest standards. After you complete dog grooming training you can get a job in a pet care organization or start your own pet grooming business. Traditional dog grooming training takes place in accredited schools that function on the basis of a well established curriculum. And although Internet programs are a lot more flexible, their reliability is doubtful most of the times. Home training is also criticized for the lack of resources and the impossibility to develop skills by working with live pets.

A lot of emphasis is placed on video materials in distance dog grooming training, because they are supposed to cover the practical part of the education. It is certainly hard to tell whether one can start a career on such grounds. The institution where you complete the dog grooming training should provide certifications once you pass the graduation test; ask for information at the Better Business Bureau before you decide to take classes with one school or another.

Look for Best Dog Grooming Blades in our Dog Grooming Tools store.

The costs of dog grooming training represent another issue worth considering because budget often has limitations. Long distance programs are usually cheaper than traditional school attendance. Nevertheless, there are pros and cons for any situation, yet, an expert recommendation will always go for the in-class form of training because of the possibility to develop skills more rapidly and in better circumstances. Thus, if you have the possibility to complete dog grooming training in a local school, choose this variant over the Internet distance studies.

We cannot conclude without touching on the fact that all forms of dog grooming training are rather new and modern. The demand for professional groomers has only increased over the last thirty years. Social changes and transformations have actually come to shape and improve dog grooming training because of the higher demands for quality services. Consequently, a grooming school that has a fifteen year tradition is more reliable as compared to one that has just been founded. The longer the history of a training school, the better the references.

Dog Grooming Tips

Not everybody can afford to pay a few hundred dollars per month to cover the pet’s grooming costs. People more willingly turn to dog grooming tips to care for their four-legged friends at home, as a form of saving money. Unfortunately, with more special breeds, home grooming is a nightmare.

Choose brushes carefully because they have to match the hair thickness and length. Maximum two brushes should do for regular brushing. For a good choice, read some dog grooming tips related to coat care specific for your dog’s breed. The supplies are not a problem with local pet stores and online dealers.

Read dog grooming tips about how to clean the dog’s ear. Wax, dirt and hair accumulate in the ear canals and reducing the auditive acuity of your pet. The hair needs to be carefully pulled out frequently, so that wax does not build up on it. Use some special accessories that you put on the fingers when gripping this hair, because both scissors and the naked fingers can cause damage to the tissues.

Buy Cheap Dog Grooming Clippers in our Dog Grooming Tools store.

One other challenge is trimming toenails, but dog grooming tips could save you from a lot of trouble here too. Pet owners don’t like long claws because dogs can cause damage to the carpets, floors and unpleasant scratching. Some medium clippers should do to help you cut the nails without injuries. Read online materials and even ask the veterinarian for recommendations.

The eyes also require special care, particularly stains appear under the eyes because of tears. While some breeds are prone to tearing, with others, tears are a sign of an existent medical condition. A bit of hydrogen peroxide in warm water should reduce the discoloration on light colored dogs but you have to be extremely careful and not get too close to the eyes. This is not a standard dog grooming solution, but rather an improvisation that could prove a very bad idea on certain occasions.

Otherwise, with a little care and interest, you can implement many dog grooming tips successfully for your pet’s well being. Keep in mind the fact that grooming needs to be performed regularly, and that you should have time to take care of it every week. The condition of the hair and the nails rapidly deteriorates without proper care and you will notice the difference that comes with this kind of negligence.

Dog Grooming Table

The main equipment item in any groomer’s salon is the dog grooming table. How can one cut hair, de-mat or trim nails when one cannot have a comfortable body position? With a dog grooming table, the technician can get the dog at the height level that allows for good work conditions on the coat, nails, ears or eyes . The applications of a dog grooming table are manifold, and the use is extensive in all salons. Moreover, the functionality of other tools is often influenced by the choice of the right dog grooming table. This is the case with the grooming loop or noose that keeps the animal as still as possible while on the table. And the groomer needs such equipment to keep the dog still on the table.

A groomer can choose from many dog grooming table models; diversity comes with differences not only in design, but in price and efficiency as well. When you plan to make an investment, it is better to buy an item that has the noose or arm incorporated rather than purchase them separately. Stationary, electric or hydraulic, the dog grooming table eases work a lot. Electric models are by far the most expensive because they allow the table surface to drop or raise at a comfortable height depending on the size of the dog.

Buy Cheapest Dog Grooming Apron in our Dog Grooming Tools store.

Although cheaper, hydraulic models have a similar functionality principle. There is no stooping or bending, and you don’t have to lift large dogs to the work level. If the more expensive designs are not an option, you can always try the stationary dog grooming table with adjustable legs. The table height can be adjusted manually, as the legs can be locked at whatever level you need. Besides these adjustment criteria, you can also select a dog grooming table according to the table top size. Private users normally buy a dog grooming table for home use, according to the size of the dog.

Both owners and pets enjoy good work conditions on a dog grooming table installed at home. Make sure to evaluate your investment and the possible savings you would make in time. Performing the grooming routine at home can save you from paying lots of money to a salon. Small and medium-sized dogs can benefit from this form of treatment as long as they don’t have thick hair. Otherwise, the dog grooming table makes a poor home purchase, and professional maintenance is a must, whether you like it or not.

Dog Grooming Supplies

Dog grooming supplies or equipment are necessary for any vet center, grooming salon or kennels as well as for pet owners who prefer home maintenance for their four-legged friends. Supplies need investment, because quality service requires the right tools for coat grooming, nail trimming, washing, ear and eyes cleaning. Moreover, according to the specificity of the business, mobile services allow professional grooming at the client’s home. Here are just a few examples of dog grooming supplies necessary for home or professional use alike. The number of dog grooming supplies is nevertheless limited for home use.

A grooming table with a noose or a grooming arm is a necessity in a grooming salon but not at home. This kind of dog grooming supplies improve work conditions a lot because of the possibility to adjust height to a comfortable level. Drop the table for large breeds and raise it for smaller ones. Moreover, the dog has to be kept as still as possible while on the table, and this is not possible without some quality dog grooming supplies meant to keep it safe without any risk of dog suffocation.

Find Discount Dog Grooming Brush in our Dog Grooming Tools store.

Non-slip coverings are sometimes overlooked by amateurs when shopping for dog grooming supplies. A wet and frightened dog is hard to keep standing. The anti-slip surface is possible thanks to the use of special coverings if the table does not include such features in the design. As for combs and brushes, there is no need for home users to invest much in such dog grooming supplies, as they can buy something highly specialized that corresponds to the dog’s features. For example, with a natural bristle brush, you can comb the pet’s hair and even distribute the oils on the fur, so that bathing is not required more often than once a month.

Matting may become an issue if you don’t groom thick-haired dogs daily. In case the brush does not work well enough to de-tangle the fur, you should use a de-matting tool in order to eliminate the inconvenience. For very serious mats, only coat shaving helps. Check guides and catalogs to identify the right dog grooming supplies particularly since you cannot handle all the grooming with a simple brush. More or less professional help is available, depending where you look for the services in question, as long as you don’t neglect grooming tasks, it simply doesn’t matter who bathes and grooms the dog.

Difficulty House Training Your Rebellious Little Yorkie? Read On For Secrets That Work!

Certain breeds, especially smaller dogs like Yorkies are known to be more challenging when it comes time to housebreak them. Commit to investing the time and effort required for house training puppies, and you will be rewarded with a wonderful relationship with your dog. Proper potty habits take time to develop, especially when it comes to small dog breeds.

When starting out, the first piece of your plan is whether you prefer an indoor or outdoor toilet area. Yorkies are a favorite breed of apartment dwellers due to their need for minimal space. You might find that your Yorkie prefers an indoor potty if he is resistant to going outside during cold weather. Another matter to consider is that with their little size comes a little bladder! If you are gone at work for much of the day, your puppy might not be able to wait to use the toilet that long. In this case, select a discreet location within your home to set up some puppy training pads. Any small area of grass or dirt will work as the toilet spot, but remember to always go to the same area for consistency.

Start off your walk at the potty spot, giving your little one the opportunity to go before the walk, and then return to this spot at the end of the walk as well, so your puppy begins to associate this location with the toilet. Going to the same location is important to help your Yorkie associate that location as the potty area and if he can smell urine, that sends a signal that this is the place to go. Being a good neighbor is important, so always carry litter bags so you can scoop the poop. If your Yorkie goes during the walk, that is ok, as long as he is learning NOT to go indoors.

Sometimes dogs avoid going outside in bad weather and then will have an accident in a discreet location indoors. A sweater is a great way to address that situation and make going out in poor weather more tolerable. If this is the case, you might want to think about an indoor alternative for these situations.

Rewards and praise do wonders in helping your little Yorkie learn quickly. When your pup has done his business, offer him lots of verbal praise and affection. Do not be afraid to offer a delicious treat as a training incentive!

Anywhere from a week to a month house training a dog is common, and for Yorkies it could be a little longer, so have patience with your little one! Learn how to train a puppy properly and you will be rewarded with a wonderful relationship between you and your Yorkshire Terrier.

Puppy Love: Dog Training Tricks

Got a new puppy? Excited to teach it how to sit, stay, fetch? Need a couple of dog training tricks to get your puppy to behave?

I remember the excitement I felt the first time I went to a pet store to purchase my very own dog. There were a dozen other pups yipping and yelping for our attention, but one puppy caught my eye. It was brownish-gold cocker spaniel with adorable puppy dog eyes, flappy ears and the softest paws. And it was just begging (i.e. jumping, yapping, whining) to be brought home. Well, needless to say, I fell for the shameless puppy-begging hook, line and sinker. But what I didn’t know then was that I was in for quite a ride.

Taking care of a dog is a lot like taking care of kid. They’re needy, helpless and quite clueless about everything. It takes a while for a dog to understand what you’re trying to say to it (“No, pillows are for sleeping not chewing”) and – unlike human babies – will never develop the capability to communicate with you through speech.

So, how can you possibly train your dog?

Remember the saying “it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks?” Well, that saying is very true. It is important that you start training your pup as soon as you can, otherwise it’ll develop habits of its own that will be hard to break. I started training my dog a few days after I got him when he was less than three months old.

Dogs learn through good and bad experiences. That’s why the “reward and punishment” system works best when dog training. If you want to teach your dog to sit, for example, make sure you have a bag of treats ready.

Hold a treat in your hand and hold it up at the dog’s eye level, close enough for him to see it and far enough so he won’t be able to snap at it. Say “sit” firmly. Raise the treat higher up until the dog assumes a sitting position. When he sits, reward him with the treat. Repeat until he learns to sit even without you holding a treat.

Once your pup has learned how to listen to you, start introducing some dog training tricks.  Fetching sometimes comes naturally to some dogs, while others need to learn how to fetch.  Take your dog to a fenced in yard and give him some treats while showing him how to run after the ball.

Other dog training tricks to start with are roll-over, paw-shaking, and playing dead.  Always offer positive reinforcement and reward them with treats.

Feel free to check out this great resource for dog training.

FAQs About Dog Health Care

Look after your dog by following these simple tips and understand more about the importance of pet health.

1. What should I have ready in my home before I bring my puppy home?

Always remember to take a travel crate with you when picking up your puppy. Think of the other puppy essentials such as food and water bowls, and these need to be in place before you bring your puppy home. Your vet, breeder or shelter personnel can tell you which brands of food are the best. The vet will also recommend some other things that you need to have ready at home, such as a lead, collar and suitable bedding. Make your first appointment with the vet to get your puppy checked over.

2. How do microchips work?

If you’re trying to be good and look at a wide variety of dog health care tips, one important tip is to get your dog microchipped. The microchip itself is a small device that goes under the dog’s skin – often placed near the neck. This is a good idea to do just in case your dog ever gets lost and gets picked up by a vet or a shelter, because they can use a scanner to read the microchip and then return it home to its owner. Do you need to microchip your dog? If you are always with your dog, then a microchip might not be necessary. Please remember though that microchipping is harmless and safe, so it is definitely worth considering. Even those dogs that spend most of their time with you can slip their collar and run off.

4. How can I tell if my dog has worms?

If you need to know more about dog health care, you should take into consideration troublesome worms. There are some common types of worms that you should be aware of and these include hookworms, tapeworms and whipworms. All can cause internal irritation and damage to your dog, but heartworms can be fatal. Get your vet to check for worms on a regular basis so your dog can stay fit and healthy.

5. Neutering – is it worth it?

It is true that unless you are planning to breed from your pet dog, getting it spayed or neutered is the right route to go down. There are far too many puppies born each year and they don’t have loving homes to go to, so if we can do our bit to prevent the problem then this is good. Neutering and spaying don’t take very long at all these days and providing there are no complications, your dog will be able to come home the same day.

By getting your pet fixed it can also help with its health in the long-term. Getting your dog spayed or neutered before the age of 6months means you reduce the risk of your pet developing cancers and infections.

Exploring The Bond Between Dogs And Children

Kids have always been drawn toward dogs. It seems that dogs and children connect automatically - children are very attracted to a dog's playful nature. Child psychologists have noted that many young people display higher levels of empathy when they are exposed to a pooch within their household. In many cases, kids who grow up with a pet also develop a heightened skill for communicating and interpreting non-verbal signals.

While these advantages are significant (especially for young people), it’s worth noting that the relationship between canines and children is unique. There are undercurrents of intense loyalty and friendship.

Below, we’ll offer a few tips that will help you choose a canine companion for your child. We will also discuss the important elements that will ensure that the bond between them stays strong. Finally, we will tell you how to ease the pain your child will feel in the event the dog dies or gets lost.

Selecting The Proper Companion

All breeds exhibit characteristic temperaments; some are more suitable for children than others. For example, pit bulls, dobermans, and chow chows are generally considered poor choices for pets in homes with young kids. On the other hand, golden retrievers, Irish setters, and collies are especially family-friendly.

Some parents mistakenly assume that smaller dogs are more appropriate for a child than large dogs. In truth, a lot of smaller breeds are easily unnerved by young people and as a result, are apt to nip and bite them. By contrast, many larger breeds are extremely gentle and protective of their young family members. They view themselves at caretakes - always lookig out for their well-being.

Tips For Maintaining A Healthy Bond

It's important that you quickly establish the household hierarchy for your dog. Besides defining yourself as the pack leader, you must clearly communicate to your canine that your child has higher rank and authority than him. Professional training classes can help enormously. If your pooch exhibits any signs of aggression, take action immediately.

If you have a toddler in your home, do not leave him alone with your dog. Canines can become excited easily and begin to mouth your children, injuring them in the process. You should also strongly encourage your kids to participate in feeding and walking your pooch. Doing so strengthens the bond between them and helps to clarify the proper hierarchy.

Dealing With Loss

Kids often internalize their feelings when their canines pass away or disappear. They’ll recall instances during which they neglected or mistreated them. If their regret is not addressed, it can fester and prevent them from enjoying the companionship of dogs in the future. Be honest with your child. Give her an opportunity to communicate her feelings about the loss. That will help her release any regrets she feels.

The companionship between a child and his dog is as strong as it is unique. You can lay the foundation for your kids by selecting the right breed and encouraging habits that support the friendship. You’ll find that doing so can strengthen a bond that lasts a lifetime.

The Top Reason Why Dogs Visit the ER

If you were to ask pet owners to guess the number one reason canines end up in the emergency room, most would guess incorrectly. Some would say bites from other animals. Others would confidently claim that getting hit by vehicles tops the list. Still others would speculate about a number of health issues. The most common reason owners take their pooches to the ER is vomiting. Many things can cause it and sometimes it's hard to tell whether the problem is minor or the sign of a more serious condition.

In this article, we'll describe a few factors that can cause your pooch to vomit. We'll also explain how veterinarians treat the condition. While the topic is mildly unpleasant, it is worth discussing so you'll be prepared to act in the event your dog experiences this problem.

What Causes Vomiting In Canines?

Vomiting is the expulsion of your dog's stomach contents through his mouth. This can be caused by a number of stimuli. For example, a virus within his gastrointestinal tract can trigger the vomit reflex. Vomiting can also be triggered if your pooch eats foods that don’t agree with his stomach, or if he eats too quickly and exercises too vigorously immediately afterward.

You might be able to identify whether the problem is serious or minor simply by observing your dog’s behavior after he vomits. If he does it once, seems active afterward, and has a routine bowel movement, you can be reasonably confident that the problem is minor. On the other hand, if your canine experiences recurring bouts, seems apathetic afterward, and loses his appetite, call your veterinarian. The vomiting could be a sign of a more serious health issue.

Forms Of Treatment

If a veterinarian determines the condition is minor, he or she will often administer subcutaneous fluids (for example, Plasmalyte and 0.9% saline) and medications to reduce any nausea. The vet will also suggest that you review your canine’s diet and eating patterns, including any plants and foreign substances he may be consuming.

If your dog has diarrhea or is apathetic, your veterinarian might choose a different treatment path. He or she may decide to administer intravenous fluids as well as one or more forms of drug therapy.

You can help your pooch avoid suffering bouts of vomiting by restricting the items he eats. Remember that dogs instinctively chew foreign objects. That can include plants, trash, and even feces. The more exposure he has to such things, the greater the likelihood he’ll eat something that causes him to vomit. Limit his exposure to these items. Avoid feeding table scraps to him; keep trash cans securely closed; watch him closely to discourage his eating plants and other items. In doing so, you’ll dramatically reduce his susceptibility to vomiting.

How To Prepare Your Home For Your New Canine Companion

When you adopt a dog, you’ll need to give him time to adjust to his new life as a member of your family. Try to see things from his point of view. He’s in an unfamiliar home and surrounded by unfamiliar people. Those who fed him in the past are gone. From his perspective, his future is uncertain. It might take him a few weeks to grow accustomed to the environment.

There are several things you can do ahead of time to help your new pooch make the transition. In this article, we’ll provide a list of items you can use to prepare your home for your new canine companion.

Make A Veterinary Appointment

It is impossible for animal shelters to completely eliminate the possibility of diseases and viruses from their populations. Many of the animals that come to their facility are homeless and have not been properly vaccinated. After you bring your new dog home, take him to see a veterinarian as soon as possible, especially if you have other pets under your roof. The veterinarian will provide the necessary vaccinations and give your pooch a clean bill of health.

Establish Your Authority

Because canines are pack animals, they need a clearly-defined hierarchy of authority in order to feel comfortable. Many owners neglect to establish themselves as the leaders of the house in their dogs’ eyes. As a result, their canines will often challenge their authority by showing aggression or displaying other behavioral issues. Establish your authority early. Apply discipline when your pooch misbehaves, and praise him when he follows your commands.

Get A Crate

Crating is valuable for a few reasons. First, it is an effective method for housetraining your dog. Second, he’ll come to view his crate as his personal sanctuary to which he can withdraw when he chooses. Even though dogs enjoy the company of their owners, a busy environment can overwhelm and tire them. A crate provides refuge.

Get The Essentials Before You Bring Him Home

Your canine companion will need a variety of supplies, including food and water bowls, bedding, ID tags, treats, a few toys, and a leash for going on walks. Acquire these items before you bring him home. He’ll feel more comfortable with his place and role within your household.

In the beginning, your newly-adopted dog will seem hesitant in your home. At first he won’t fully understand how he fits in or the rules of his new environment. He’ll want to explore, but may be uncertain regarding the flexibility he has to do so. Give him time to adjust. Canines are incredibly adaptable, and they grow accustomed to new environments quickly. That being said, you can pave the way for a seamless transition by following the above suggestions. With a little love and patience, you’ll discover that your new pooch will quickly become a trusted and loyal companion.

How to Care For A Dog Adopted From A Puppy Mill

Puppy mills can leave a disastrous emotional (and sometimes, physical) mark on your dog. Puppies there are often treated badly, abused, neglected, and given poor shelter - all to support a mass-breeding organization. They often live in cages, deprived of human tenderness and companionship, and spend their entire lives breeding. It is a given that these pups do not receive ongoing care from a veterinarian.

When you adopt a dog from a puppy mill, you'll need to use special care as you assimilate him into your household. It's likely that he will be distrustful of you in the beginning due to how others have treated him in the past. Be patient with him. He’ll learn to not only trust you, but look forward to being with you. Here are a few helpful tips to help you care for your new canine friend:

Provide Plenty Of Room

When you bring your pooch home for the first time, give him an area in which he can spend time alone. Remember, he has likely learned to dread contact with people since that contact often led to abuse in the past. Let him eat his meals and rest in his private sanctuary. Give him treats. He may need time to understand that he can roam your home freely without fearing consequences. Keep an eye on him, but give him plenty of space.

Give Him A Lift

There's a good chance that your puppy mill canine has never leaped onto a couch, climbed stairs, or jumped into a car. He’ll likely need your encouragement (and more than a little patience) to make the attempt. In some cases, his fear will hold him back. In other cases, his muscles and limbs may not be able to withstand the impact. Be gentle and help him when he needs it.

Introduce Him To His New Environment

If your dog has spent his entire life at a puppy mill, he'll need to adjust to your appliances, young children, and other elements that are unfamiliar to him. The sounds of your television, toaster, and vacuum can frighten him (it’s unlikely he has been exposed to these things). Also, if you have young kids in your home, instruct them to avoid rushing up to your pooch. It may be weeks before he is comfortable around strangers.

Visit A Veterinarian

As noted, puppy mill dogs receive very little (if any) care from a veterinarian. There is a high likelihood that your canine is suffering from dental and eye problems, diseases, ticks, and other issues. Make an appointment with a veterinarian as soon as you bring your new pooch home (it’s a good idea to let your vet know your canine’s past).

Adopting and caring for a puppy mill dog requires a lot of attention, patience, and tenderness. He’ll need time to become comfortable with his place in your life. Before long, he’ll see you as his trusted friend and companion.

The Beauty Of Owning A Dog

A couple of months I go my family re-homed a rescue dog called Cassie. She was living in a local animal sanctuary and as soon as I saw her I knew that she was the dog for me and my family. At the outset she was rather wild – to say the least. Cassie would be desperate to get to other dogs, not so much to hurt them but more to have some fun. This however was something that the owner of these other dogs were not too keen with and I received many a dirty look etc. I am now pleased to report that Cassie is starting to calm down, just a bit, and is very much enjoying her new surroundings. I am a very happy dog owner. I must say that I have been very surprised just how much I have enjoyed having a dog as a pet and in this article I will be writing about the experiences I have had etc.

I do not personally work with pets in any form; I am actually involved with various projects to do with cost reduction experts, web promotion and offering a gain confidence course.

Cassie is now very happy in her new surroundings and shows this happiness in many forms. She is very loving and very loyal. I have two children and she really enjoys playing with them, especially ball type games, however has never become over aggressive with them. Every time I see Cassie’s face in the morning or when I arrive home from work it makes me smile – that surely is worth its weight in gold. Unlike your average woman she listens, she is obedient and she cares! Please do not show this to the wife.

In some peoples opinion taking a dog for regular walks would be one of the reasons why they might choose not to own one. I actually really enjoy taking Cassie on her walks as it gives me a chance to clear my head, to meet other people and is a really useful form of exercise. I always take a tennis ball on our walks and she is now becoming an expert at catching this ball after the first bounce and even at times without the ball bouncing at all. She wags her tail in enjoyment and this also fills me with a feeling of pleasure.

After she has had her evening meal she will have yet another sleep in our main room. Cassie seems to like the buzz of this room with the noise of our two children as well as the sounds from the television. At about ten o’clock she will then start pining for just one last walk which I am more than happy to take her on. Cassie is now another member of our family and I am sure that she feels this as she curls up for little snooze. She always looks so contented as she starts to dream, I often think that she would have probably have dreamt of living in such an environment when she was living in the animal sanctuary. I hope that her dreams have come true.

Cassie has become a great companion to the members of my family including myself. She is a great listener and never answers back, unlike my children and wife.

I would certainly recommend other people to give a dog a home. It may cost you some money in the way of dog food and may take up some of your time in the form of dog walking. This is a very small price to pay however for the rewards which the dog is likely to bring you.

Companionship, loyalty, happiness as well as the health benefits of exercise via the regular dog walking are just some of the reasons why I love owning Cassie.

6 Basics For Keeping Your Pooch Safe And Happy

Dogs make wonderful companions. They are loyal to you and your familly above all others. When you're lonely, they'll provide company. When in danger, they’ll do whatever they can to protect you. In return, you need to provide food, shelter, regular trips to the vet, rewards, affection, and a few other things. Below, we’ll provide a list of six things that you’ll need to do to keep your pooch safe, happy, and healthy.

#1 – Spaying Or Neutering

Unless you’re a professional breeder, there are few reasons to neglect spaying or neutering your canine. In most cases, he’ll live longer, manifest fewer behavioral issues, and remain healthier throughout his life. Plus, animal shelters are overloaded partly because of population problems. If you spay or neuter your pooch, you'll help control the problem.

#2 - Enroll Into Professional Training Classes

Without you teaching them the right habits, canines can develop bad ones. While there are training strategies that you can employ at home to curb them, it’s far easier to enroll him into professional dog behavior classes. Not only will that prevent new bad habits from forming, but it also help socialize your pooch among other people and their pets.

#3 – Invest In Tags And A Microchip

Dogs can get lost. It can happen when you least expect it. Make sure your dog has his tags so other people – including animal control personnel – can identify you as his owner. You should also invest in a microchip. Tags can be rubbed off or detached. A microchip that is placed under your dog’s skin will help animal control employees identify him.

#4 - Routine Veterinarian Checkups

In the same way people need to schedule annual exams with their doctors, your pooch needs regular checkups with his veterinarian. Otherwise, he might develop a health issue, which can quickly damage his body. Schedule routine appointments with the vet and keep them.

#5 – Provide Regular Exercise

All dogs require exercise. Even though some breeds are more active than others, all of them are susceptible to developing health issues - including obesity - if they don't enjoy physical activity. Plan to take your canine companion on two walks a day in addition to any playtime you spend with him.

#6 - Outside Your Home, Keep The Leash On

You should always keep your canine leashed when he’s outside your home (unless you have taken him to a dog park). Most cities have “leash laws” and they’re usually enforced. Plus, even though your pooch is well-trained, docile, and tagged, he may react poorly to something out of your control. Neglecting to leash him can easily lead to a host of problems.

Your dog will provide a lifetime of love and companionship. Don’t forget to reward him with affection and treats. He will be a wonderful friend to you.  But, keep in mind that your responsibility to him is just as significant.

Grooming Your Dog – Bath

Dog grooming or dog grooming bath is vital for our pet. Many expert books and literatures advice and urge owners about dog grooming. What is the reason?
Correct pet hygiene keeps the animal happy and healthy. Bathing makes an important stage of a dog’s grooming routine and it can be performed weekly or monthly, depending on the case. Water and shampoo are bliss and any dog grooming bath makes a great occasion to brush the pet’s hair, clean its ears and eyes and trim the nails. If you don’t have basic grooming skills or you are more in favor of professional grooming services, you can pay for a dog grooming bath with a local business weekly, once or twice a month. While hair brushing should be done regularly, there is no absolute rule for bathing.

If you accustom your dog with bathing when it’s still a puppy, a dog grooming bath will always be a source of fun. A young animal will always be more open to new experiences because it is playful; consequently, start a bathing routine as early as possible. If you adopt an older animal and you can’t handle the dog grooming bath on your own, it’s your duty to pay someone to do it. Check with local groomers for grooming and bathing services in one, because they are usually cheaper. Depending on the size of the pet and the hair thickness, you can pay up to 0 or even more for very large breeds.

High-maintenance dogs require great skill for dog grooming bath and only an experienced groomer will be able to handle heavy coats for instance. The advantage of professional services is that all sorts of bumps, lumps and even injuries may pass unnoticed by the owner under the thick coat, and the sooner they get detected, the better for the dog’s health. Unless you prevent matting, you’ll pay a great deal of money to get the dog’s hair untangled. Moreover, such a delicate procedure really tries the dog’s patience. There are even cases when the coat has to be shaved off to remove mats, and that is certainly not desirable at all.

All in all, dog grooming bath should not be neglected regardless of whether you carry it out at home or you hire a professional. Ask the vet for the most suitable shampoo or cleaning product so that you may solve the issue of coat parasites as well. Drying the dog’s coat is another issue you need to handle carefully, because the blow-dryer may be useful, but it is not accepted by lots of dogs. Make the best of decisions starting from your pet’s preferences and individuality!

About Your Dog And The Best Grooming

If you are a pet owner more likely know what is the dog grooming. There are many type of dog grooming as there are breeds. But why the best dog grooming?
Pet physical maintenance goes hand in hand with good health and well being. When well taken care of, animals do feel great. The best dog grooming you can provide to your four-legged friend depends on several factors: your budget, the breed, the size of the dog and its personality. Moreover, you’ll have to determine the grooming frequency starting from these, turning nail cutting, hair combing and ear cleaning into a routine. The best dog grooming is conducted following a vet’s suggestions. Some people prefer doing it a home with the appropriate tools while others feel it more comfortable to take the pet to a professional groomer.

Brushing is the grooming part that most dogs enjoy, and a shiny clean coat is the right premise for good health. The brushes have to be adjusted to the dog’s hair. Thus, in order to prevent the tangling and matting of the hair, dogs with long thick hair should be brushed daily. It doesn’t take long and it makes things a lot easier when you take the dog to the groomer for the regular grooming routine. Medium-haired dogs require brushing once a week only, while short-haired breeds raise almost no problems in terms of brushing. We ought to emphasize the importance of good brushing during the shedding season.

While brushing is a joy, nail trimming is a nightmare. The gentlest of dogs will not like you handling his paws, which makes nail trimming challenging for most pet owners. Coming up with the best dog grooming solution for the matter means avoiding the pet’s fear of pain, since this will make things a lot easier. A vet technician or a groomer should be entrusted with nail trimming at least once a month, and you may also learn a thing or two from them.

Bathing is another harsh time for pets and owners. Some dogs love washing, but what about a wet dog running out of the tub and making a mess everywhere in the house? Although a monthly bath is enough, there is no harm in bathing them weekly particularly if you have a professional groomer handle the entire operation. Besides the elimination of the bad smells, the best dog grooming and bathing will eliminate parasites that hide in the hair such as flees and ticks. Use special dog shampoos recommended by the vet so as to eliminate fleas and ticks without any inconvenience.

What a Dog Owner Should Know

When left to their own devices, dogs love to engage each other in a bout of playing. To the uninitiated owner who observes the interaction, the behavior can seem cute, odd, and even worrisome if things seem to be getting too rough. The fact is, canines enjoy this type of contact with each other and rarely does the contact get out of hand. In a way, it is a social dance they perform with one another from the time they are puppies through adulthood.

Below, we’ll explore why canines play with each other. You’ll learn about their motivations and triggers as well as the types of play in which they engage.

Understanding The Motivations

Pack animals play within their group when they are young. Once they grow up they usually stop. Dogs are different. For some reason, they never lose their juvenile tendencies. Even well into adulthood, assuming they are not prevented by an illness or other health issue, canines will continue playing with one another.

Some vets suggest that dogs interact this way because they are rehearsing their roles as adults. You might see puppies wrestling over food or toys – behavior that may be necessary later in life. You might also see them biting or humping.

Another motivation is a simple desire to engage their mind and body. Your pooch needs mental stimulation and exercise in order to remain happy and healthy. Playing with another dog provides a perfect outlet.

Social Interaction

Just as young people must learn to interact with each other without exceeding acceptable social limits, canines must also learn proper social skills. This type of playing occurs most frequently when they are puppies. They’ll roughhouse, chewing and biting playfully. If one of the “players” goes too far (for example, bites too hard), the other will let him know. This is how they learn what is acceptable and what is not.

Sexual Interaction

When dogs play sexually, their interaction usually manifests as mounting. Studies have shown that if a pooch reaches adulthood without having had sufficient mounting experience, his initial attempts at mating can often prove unsuccessful. Dogs will mount furniture or even people’s legs if there is no play partner present. The latter complicates the relationship between an owner and his pooch because the act of mounting is a dominant one.

Dog as Predator

Canines are, by nature, predatory pack animals; certain characteristics are imprinted upon their brains. These characteristics will manifest during play – chasing balls, sitcks, and other objects. You’ll often see dogs jumping and pinning things that are moving only to release them before attempting to pin them again. They sharpen their predatory nature in a playful environment.

Your dog has a playful streak that is nearly impossible to suppress. As his companion, provide him with an environment that gives him the chance to enjoy himself, build his skills, and interact with playmates. Always reward your dog for good behavior with healthy dog chews and dog treats.  Bully Sticks are an all natural treats that your dog is sure to enjoy.

Dog Training Basics: The Key To A Better Companionship

A well-trained canine makes a better companion. Obedience classes might help your dog learn to adopt the behaviors you expect from him. He’ll be able to adapt more easily to his environment within your home as well as interact more socially with your family and friends. A properly-trained dog is a joy to be around.

It’s impossible to overstate the value of enrolling your pooch into obedience classes that are taught by a professional trainer. Not only will that person use effective methods that yield long-term benefits, but your canine will also have a chance to interact with other pets and their owners.

There is a lot you can do at home. Below, we’ll provide three dog training basics that you can use to help your canine become a well-adjusted member of your family.

Enjoy Yourself

First, keep your sessions short – no more than 15 minutes. Otherwise, your canine may lose interest and begin responding poorly to your commands (frustrating you in the process). The key is to create a training environment that is enjoyable for both of you. If you don’t feel like participating, wait until you do. Also, to help motivate your dog for future sessions, end every session by giving him an easy command and then provide him with dog treats when he responds correctly.

Eliminate Negative Reinforcement Methods

Owners have a tendency to react negatively when their canines fail to respond to their commands. For example, they might strike or yell at them. It’s important to realize that positive reinforcement methods are far more effective when you train your pooch. Remember, he wants to please you. If he responds to your commands favorable, reward him with a treat. If he doesn’t, withhold the dog treats. He’ll get the message loud and clear and modify his behavior accordingly.

Teach The Long Stay

Canines get antsy, especially if you’re nearby. Sitting still can be a major challenge for them. Your pooch may have no trouble sitting for 10 or 15 seconds when you command him to do so. However, most dogs will fail to sit for longer periods. This is an important lesson to teach your dog to instill self-control.

You’ll need to train him by starting with a short period of time and gradually extending it as he succeeds. For example, start with 20 seconds and give him a treat when he succeeds. Once he has done so 3 or 4 times, extend the time to 25 seconds. Continue doing this until your pooch can sit still with you nearby for 60 seconds. It might also help to teach specific words (like “easy”) that you can say to calm him down.

There are few experiences more rewarding than owning a well-trained dog. While professional training is important, you can use the above tips at home to help your pooch become a better companion.

Info For My Dog And Nail Grooming

Dog grooming is a necessity for our pets. Dog grooming can be made at home or by a professional. Although when dog grooming comes to nails, there is a bit more what should be known…
Dog nail grooming requires the use of clippers, grinders and files, which are normally used for nail trimming. There are many sizes and models available for clippers, and all you have to do is choose the one that suits your dog’s size or breed. Medium-sized clippers normally work on all breeds except for very large dogs. Grinders are an alternative to clippers and lots of groomers used them for more delicate dog nail grooming tasks.

Grinders smooth off edges while clippers cut.Dog nail grooming is complex and it usually requires a combination of tools for maximum of efficiency. Certain clippers have a guard attached that prevents cutting too much nail, yet, because of this guard, you may not see the nail when cutting and you could injury the toe veins. This kind of injury is very possible if the groomer is inexperienced or uses improper tools.

There are very professional items for dog nail grooming that allow for the stemming of the bleeding by the cauterization of the vein that gets touched with the clippers. The problem with dog nail grooming is that you have to be very careful and maximize the dog’s comfort, pain frightens the animal and it will become nervous every time you handle its paws.

Why is dog nail grooming so important? Well, long nails can be very painful for animals, particularly when they live indoors and have few opportunities to smooth the nails against the ground. Ingrown nails are another risk and threat which affect dogs with improperly trimmed nails. Listen to your dog walking on hard floors, and if they click, then, dog nail grooming is a must right away.

Sometimes, dog nail grooming requires smoothing or filing because lots of dogs have very brittle nails that splinter when you cut them short. The dog’s disposition and tolerance are very important for nail trimming. Don’t attempt at cutting them all at once; breaks are usually necessary in order to allow the animal to relax. Because of the discomfort, it is very likely for a dog to bit his master during dog nail grooming.

With many pets it takes a lot of time to get used to nail trimming. Tolerance can be helped with careful handling, but this doesn’t always work. Try the reward system and give your pet a tiny treat after each nail cut. Wait for a while, then move on to the next nail.

Dog Grooming Video- Do I Need It?

Undoubtedly the dog grooming is a needed care for dogs. So the need for dog grooming training and visual dog grooming tips or videos on how to do for professionals, learners and owners.
A dog grooming video is most commonly a form of didactic material used to train people for pet care professions. In fact, this is the very specificity of most Internet courses and learning programs specialized in dog grooming. People who prefer to train for a new profession at home depend on such materials to understand the practical parts of the occupation and eventually develop skills. Presently a large number of Internet videos are available independently or as part of collections on the world wide web. Thus, whether for entertainment or sheerly practical, a dog grooming video could may provide good tips for dog care.

If you can’t afford to pay for professional pet maintenance, a dog grooming video could be really useful to learn how to de-mat the pet’s hair or how to trim nails. However, the source and the quality of the video are of paramount importance. There are many amateurish materials that could teach you wrong and your attempts to groom the dog could be a huge failure. Make a good selection of your sources before you can decide whether the information is trustworthy or not. The validity of the information can be somehow confirmed by the quality of the video material as well.

The irresponsible application of the suggestions in a dog grooming video could lead to very unpleasant results for a pet’s coat. Hairy coat maintenance is something that often needs to be left to professionals, because your pet’s health is no game. The lack of proper tools could also prevent the implementation of the info explained in dog grooming video files. Plus, there is no room for improvisations, and everything has to be carried out carefully and with consideration for the dog.

The consequence of an incident resulting from the use of a dog grooming video may be the difficulty of convincing the pet to accept grooming in the future. For example, nail trimming is something most dogs resent; if you scare the animal once, chances of cutting nails quietly and in good conditions grow pretty scarce. Most problems appear because people tend to perceive the operations conducted in a demonstrative dog grooming video as very easy. The thing is that those whom you see in the videos are probably professionals that have the right skills and experience to move that fast. When you lack both, home grooming can be a failure.
